The Indian High Commission in Dhaka has recalled the historic radio address of former Bangladesh President, BNP founder, and Liberation War sector commander Ziaur Rahman on the occasion of his 45th martyrdom anniversary.

In a bilingual post published on its verified Facebook page on Saturday, 30 May, the mission highlighted Ziaur Rahman’s famous radio broadcast delivered in March 1971 during Bangladesh’s Liberation War.

The post stated: “As the people of Bangladesh gather today in memory of one of their nation’s bravest sons, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam, we recall his famous radio address of March 1971, which electrified the masses, inspired them on a path of resistance against oppression and led to national liberation.”

The Indian mission also emphasized the historical bond between Bangladesh and India forged during the Liberation War, noting that India continues to stand beside the people of Bangladesh, just as it did in 1971. The message referred to the two nations’ “shared sacrifices” and their “common journey towards progress and prosperity.”

According to political analysts, the Indian High Commission’s tribute on Ziaur Rahman’s martyrdom anniversary has renewed discussion about Bangladesh-India relations and the historical context of the Liberation War. His radio broadcast during the 1971 independence struggle continues to be regarded as a significant chapter in Bangladesh’s history.
