Mobile Messages Expose Madaripur Primary Teacher Exam Leak

Two people have been arrested in Madaripur for their alleged involvement in leaking answers to the primary school assistant teacher recruitment examination through mobile phone messaging.

The arrestees are Amrit Mondol, son of Abinash Mondol of Jurgan village in Kalkini upazila, and Lovely Begum, wife of Ariful Islam of the Chhoyna area under Ghatmajhi union in Madaripur Sadar. Amrit Mondol is currently serving as a member of the Ansar force, posted at Motijheel Police Station in Dhaka, while Lovely Begum is a homemaker.

A case was filed against them at Madaripur Sadar Police Station on Friday night. Officer-in-Charge Abul Kalam Azad said the accused would be sent to jail through the court on Saturday morning (January 10).

Earlier, on Friday afternoon, the two were detained from separate examination centres—Asmat Ali Khan Public School and College and Charmuguria Degree College—during the examination.

According to police and multiple sources, the assistant teacher recruitment exam was held nationwide on Friday afternoon. Amrit Mondol appeared for the exam at the Asmat Ali Khan Public School and College centre. During the examination, a mobile phone was recovered from his possession, which contained the exam answers. He was detained on the spot and later handed over to Madaripur Sadar Police Station.

During preliminary interrogation, Amrit reportedly admitted that the answer sheet had been sold to him by Asim Gain, identified as the leader of a question-leak syndicate from Fulbari area under Kadambari union of Rajoir upazila.

Meanwhile, on the same day, Lovely Akhtar (Lovely Begum) was detained in front of the Charmuguria Degree College examination centre by Mahbuba Islam, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Shibchar and an Executive Magistrate. She was found reading a handwritten sheet containing answers. The matter drew the attention of the District Primary Education Officer, who handed her over to the magistrate on suspicion.

The handwritten answer sheet was later found to match the recruitment exam questions. She was subsequently handed over to Madaripur Sadar police.

Confirming the matter, OC Abul Kalam Azad said the two were arrested for attempting to sit for the assistant teacher recruitment examination using leaked answer sheets. “They will be sent to jail through the court today,” he added.
