To enhance technological proficiency in engineering practices, the Engineers Institution, Bangladesh (IEB) Women Engineers Chapter has launched a two-day training program titled “AutoCAD: 2D Drafting and 3D Modeling.” The training was inaugurated on 9 April, Thursday at the IEB Council Hall in Ramna, Dhaka. The program is being conducted in two phases on 9 and 11 April.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the IEB President and RAJUK Chairman, Engineer Mohammad Riazul Islam (Riju), as the chief guest. He stated that AutoCAD has become indispensable in contemporary engineering work. While initially confined to civil engineering, the software is now widely used across all engineering disciplines. The increasing demand for three-dimensional (3D) design and visualization necessitates engineers’ proficiency in this domain.

He added that in the past, engineers relied on log tables and later calculators to perform technical computations. With continuous technological advancements, the use of AutoCAD emerged and has now become essential in engineering operations.

In his remarks, the honorary general secretary of IEB, Professor Engineer Md. Sabbir Mostafa Khan, emphasized that in today’s competitive market, formal degrees alone are insufficient; practical skills are the key to professional success. IEB Vice-President Engineer ATM Tanveer-ul Hasan Tamal noted that AutoCAD has simplified, accelerated, and enhanced the accuracy of drawing creation and modification.

The program was presided over by Women Engineers Chapter Chairperson Engineer Shahnaz Sharmin, and additional remarks were made by the chapter’s secretary Engineer Ishrat Jahan. The speakers mentioned that this specialized AutoCAD training was organized in response to participants’ demand from last year’s training session. Future plans include division-specific specialized training programs.

Organizers expressed the expectation that through this training, engineers will be able to present project concepts more realistically and effectively.
