Postal Poll Push: 554,941 Expatriates Register to Vote

A total of 554,941 expatriate Bangladeshis from different countries have registered to vote through the “Postal Vote BD” app for the 13th National Parliamentary Election. Of them, 520,668 are men and 34,271 are women.

The information was obtained at 10:30 am on Sunday, December 21, from the Election Commission’s (EC) postal ballot website.

This marks the first time the EC has introduced an IT-supported postal voting system. Under this initiative, expatriates, individuals in legal custody, and officials engaged in election duties will be able to cast their votes through postal ballots. To avail of the facility, voters must register via the designated app. Registration began on November 19 and will continue until December 25.

According to the EC, the process of sending postal ballots by mail to the registered voters’ addresses will begin from Sunday. After casting their votes, voters will be required to return the ballots in the provided return envelopes to the respective returning officers.

Meanwhile, the EC is preparing to hold voting for the 13th National Parliamentary Election in the first half of February. As part of the process, the commission has set a target of engaging five million expatriate voters in the upcoming election.
