In a pilot initiative, selected technologically capable schools in the capital city will adopt a hybrid learning system. Under this arrangement, classes will be held online on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, while students will attend offline (in-person) classes on Saturdays, Mondays, and Wednesdays.

The announcement was made on 9 April, Thursday during a press briefing at the International Mother Language Institute conference hall, where Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milan addressed the media along with Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division, Abdul Khalek. School heads from various renowned educational institutions in Dhaka were also present.

During the briefing, the majority of participants expressed support for conducting classes through a blended approach (online and offline). Speakers welcomed the government’s proposed decision and assured full cooperation in implementing the initiative. The decision was taken to reduce urban traffic congestion, save energy, and maintain continuity in education.

Officials emphasized that integrating technology into the education system is crucial to meet modern demands. For effective implementation, uninterrupted electricity supply, internet access, and student participation must be ensured. To oversee this blended learning system, a monitoring mechanism will be established. Additionally, a reporting system will be introduced to track student attendance and activities in online classes, which will be evaluated through follow-ups during offline sessions.

Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milan clarified that the initiative is not mandatory but a planned and gradually implementable approach. Only institutions capable of participating will join voluntarily. With proper preparation, this method could potentially expand in the future.

The minister added that the pilot project will initially be implemented in large, traffic-prone, and renowned schools in Dhaka metropolitan areas. He emphasized, “This is not being imposed on everyone. Only capable institutions will participate in this blended education program.”

He further explained, “While students will join online classes from home, teachers must conduct the classes from school premises. Teachers will not take classes from home.”

Considering the overall national situation and the global energy crisis, adapting the education system is essential. The minister expressed confidence that the initiative will succeed through collective efforts.
