Ramadan Relief: Protein at Affordable Prices for 1 Million Families
State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock, Agriculture, and Food, Sultan Salauddin Tuku, has announced that the government has taken an initiative to supply protein-rich food at affordable prices for low-income people during the month of Ramadan. Under this program, nearly one million families across the country will receive milk, eggs, meat, and fish.
He added that there are plans to further expand the program in the future.
The minister made these remarks on Thursday, February 19, while addressing the inauguration ceremony of a special Ramadan sales program offering milk, eggs, and meat at subsidized prices. The event was held at the conference hall of the Livestock Research Institute in the capital, where he attended as the chief guest.
Sultan Salauddin Tuku said, “In line with the government’s commitment to work for the welfare of the people under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, this initiative has been undertaken. The program will have a positive impact in stabilizing market prices and will benefit general consumers.”
He further noted that during Ramadan, some unscrupulous traders tend to increase the prices of essential commodities, causing hardship for low-income people. “This government initiative will help alleviate that suffering,” he said.
As part of implementing the government’s election pledges, the state minister also mentioned plans to introduce Family Cards, Agriculture Cards, and Health Cards. He emphasized that honesty, dedication, and coordinated teamwork are essential to meeting public expectations. Referring to BNP founder Ziaur Rahman, he said the late president earned a place in people’s hearts through his work for public welfare. He also praised Khaleda Zia for her uncompromising role in establishing democracy and protecting people’s rights.
The event was chaired by Director General of the Department of Livestock Services, Dr. Md. Abu Sufian. Special guests included Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Abu Taher Muhammad Jaber, President of the Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council Moshiur Rahman, and President of the Bangladesh Cattle and Fattening Farmers Association Mohammad Iqbal Hossain. Senior officials from the relevant ministries and departments were also present.
