JUST Joyous: English Department Welcomes Freshers with Festivity and Felicitation

The Department of English at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) hosted a vibrant Freshers’ Reception on Monday, October 13, featuring floral greetings for new students, crests of honor for top performers from different batches, and a delightful cultural program.

The event took place at 3 p.m. at the Professor Mohammad Sharif Hossain Gallery of the Kazi Nazrul Islam Academic Building, organized by the Department of English. The Vice-Chancellor of JUST, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid, attended as the chief guest.

Addressing the new students, the Vice-Chancellor said, “It is not enough to excel only in academics; you must also grow in character and all other aspects to become enlightened human beings. Alongside your studies, you must develop humane qualities and make good use of every moment of your life. By shaping your life beautifully, you will secure a bright future for yourselves.”

He further advised, “Never hesitate to do good deeds. Move forward with courage and determination — only then will you succeed and prove yourselves as worthy individuals.”

The program was presided over by Dr. Farzana Nasrin, Chairperson of the Department of English. Special guests included Professor Dr. Hossain Al Mamun, Treasurer of JUST, and Dr. Mariam Jamila, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Faculty members and students from different batches were also present.

During the event, outstanding students from various batches who secured the first position were awarded crests as tokens of recognition. The program concluded in the evening with a captivating cultural performance presented by students of the English Department.

The entire event was conducted by English Department students Tasnim Jannat and Obaydour Rahman Fuad.
