Technical Transformation: Major Education Reform Roadmap After Eid
Education and Primary Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon has unveiled plans for major technical reforms in the country’s examination and evaluation systems, placing special emphasis on technical and vocational education to build employment-oriented skills. He said a comprehensive roadmap for these reforms will be announced after Eid-ul-Fitr.
The announcement was made at a press conference held at the Ministry of Education conference room on Thursday, February 19, around 12:45pm. Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division, Rehena Parveen, along with other concerned officials, was present at the event.
At the press conference, the minister outlined three key priorities for the education sector: bringing students back to regular classroom-based learning, reviewing the national curriculum, and strengthening technical and vocational education.
Responding to questions about the government’s 180-day priority plan, the education minister said the first priority is to ensure that students attend classes regularly and that a conducive learning environment is established. Secondly, the existing curriculum will be reviewed and necessary revisions made. Thirdly, special importance will be given to technical and vocational education to develop job-oriented skills.
He further assured, “There will be no corruption—there cannot be corruption. I can assure you of that.” He added that necessary measures will be taken to ensure transparency and accountability in the education sector.
In his written statement, State Minister Bobby Hajjaj said that a three-phase timeline will guide implementation.
The first phase will run from now until Eid-ul-Fitr. During this period, a diagnostic review of budget and project implementation will be conducted; a root-cause analysis will examine why 53 percent of the development budget was returned; and pilot designs will be prepared for distributing tablets to teachers, introducing multimedia classrooms, and strengthening language education.
The second phase will begin after Eid-ul-Fitr. Bobby Hajjaj said that, with the consent of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, a National Education Roadmap will be announced. This roadmap will be ministry-based, division-based, and include measurable indicators.
The third phase will span 12 to 36 months. During this period, major technical reforms will be introduced in the examination and evaluation systems. Bridging mechanisms will be established among technical, general, and madrasa education streams. Additionally, research and innovation grants in universities will be scaled up.
