Trump Targets TikTok Takeover Timeline
U.S. President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order on Thursday regarding TikTok, according to a White House source. The order states that the ongoing deal concerning the sale of TikTok’s U.S. operations will comply with the law passed by Congress in 2024. That law mandated that TikTok must separate from its Chinese ownership or face a nationwide ban. Reuters reported the development.
The White House confirmed that efforts are underway to separate TikTok’s U.S. branch from ByteDance’s ownership through a sale. Trump has already delayed the law’s enforcement until December to allow time for securing American investors and completing the transition of ownership. The upcoming executive order on Thursday may also extend the deadline further.
TikTok currently has 170 million users in the United States. Trump himself remains active on the app, where he has more than 15 million followers. He has even claimed that TikTok plays a role in boosting his re-election campaign.
Just last month, the White House also launched an official TikTok account.
