HBO Max Heads to Bangladesh
Tech-entertainment giant HBO Max has announced the launch of its streaming services in 14 countries across the Asia-Pacific region, including Bangladesh. According to the announcement, following the entry of foreign streaming platforms such as Amazon Prime and Netflix, Warner Bros.’ highly anticipated streaming service is set to begin operations in Bangladesh on October 15. From that date, Bangladeshi subscribers will gain access to HBO Originals, Max Originals, and Warner Bros. Hits. Like other leading streaming services, HBO Max will also offer specialized apps for mobile devices, televisions, and other platforms.
Through the app, Bangladeshi viewers will be able to enjoy world-famous series and films such as Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, and The Last of Us legally and from the comfort of their homes. In addition, content from Discovery, TLC, AFN, Food Network, ID, and HGTV will also be available under the same service.
The upcoming new series It: "Welcome to Derry", launching on October 27, is expected to draw significant attention from subscribers. Based on Stephen King’s horror classic It, which has already inspired two popular films, the new series focuses on the story and its central character—the murderous clown ‘Pennywise’. This prequel-style production will portray Pennywise in the 1960s.
Other popular series on HBO Max will include The Last of Us, House of the Dragon, and The Penguin. Family-friendly shows such as Adventure Time, We Bare Bears, Tom and Jerry, and Looney Tunes will also be part of the lineup. Original series like The Paper and Mobland, along with documentaries such as Gold Rush, Deadliest Catch, and 90 Day Fiancé, will further enrich the catalog.
Warner Bros. has stated that details on payment options and related information will be released in the coming weeks. Analysts suggest that while the move will challenge local OTT platforms, it may also lead to a greater outflow of remittances in the form of dollars.
