Global Village Vision: JUST VC Stresses Skills, Knowledge, and Language
Vice-Chancellor of Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST), Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid, stated that the world can become a "global village" if individuals possess knowledge, skills, and multilingual proficiency. “With knowledge gained from conferences and skills from workshops, if we also master multiple languages, the world will indeed feel like a global village,” he remarked.
He made these observations on Sunday, June 15, while addressing a day-long conference titled Health, Hope, and Higher Education, organized by the Department of Nursing and Health Sciences at the central gallery of JUST. The conference began with students of the department welcoming the guests with flowers.
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted, “Nursing is a globally respected and dignified profession. I believe that the prestige of this profession will be further enhanced through your contributions. Although higher education in nursing is still limited, we can elevate the profession by addressing this gap. For that, we must focus more on research. Through research, we can position nursing services as a role model on both national and global platforms.”
Addressing the students, Professor Majid added, “If we can produce skilled nurses, we can earn foreign currency not just from within the country but from abroad as well. Conferences and workshops like these will help you acquire both knowledge and practical skills. And if, along with this, you learn a third language, you will truly turn the world into a global village. But for that, you must work hard. With hard work, success will surely follow.”
The keynote speakers at the event included Mohammad Sarwar Hossain, Executive Director of the Biomedical Research Foundation at Independent University, Bangladesh, and research fellow Dr. S. M. Yasir Arafat. They presented slides on thalassemia, suicide prevention, and bridging global education with research-based insights and developmental progress.
Special guest Professor Dr. Md. Jafirul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at JUST, also addressed the audience. Additional remarks were delivered by the convener of the conference and Chair of the Department of Nursing and Health Sciences, Kulsuma Akter. Faculty members including lecturers Sharmin Akter Sumi and Anjan Kumar Roy, as well as numerous students of the department, were present. The event was hosted by students Mahabub Alam, Sohel Bepari, and Monija Akter Ria.
