Minister Calls for Study of Ziaur Rahman’s Ideals Among New Generation
Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology, Faqir Mahbub Anam Swapan, has urged the younger generation to study and practice the life, political philosophy, and ideals of martyred President Ziaur Rahman in order to better understand his contributions as the proponent of multi-party democracy and founder of the BNP.
The call was made on Saturday, 31 May, while addressing a prayer gathering and community feast organized by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Madhupur Upazila to mark the 45th martyrdom anniversary of President Ziaur Rahman. The event was held at the local BNP office, where the minister attended as the chief guest.
Speaking at the event, Fakir Mahbub Anam Swapan said that following the ideals of Ziaur Rahman in serving the people would be the most meaningful tribute to his memory. He emphasized that there is no alternative to study and research for gaining a deeper understanding of Ziaur Rahman’s life, work, and political philosophy.
The programme was presided over by Madhupur Upazila BNP President Mohammad Zakir Hossain Sarkar and moderated by Municipal BNP General Secretary Khandakar Motalib Hossain. Freedom fighter M. A. Samad also addressed the gathering.
Among those present were BNP National Executive Committee member Advocate Shamsuzzaman Suruj, Upazila BNP Vice-President M. Ratan Haidar, General Secretary Nasir Uddin, Municipal BNP President Khurram Khan Yusufzi Prince, BNP leaders Zainal Abedin Khan Bablu, Anwar Hossain, Abdul Latif Panna, and other party activists.
In his keynote remarks, the minister said that the country is progressing under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, whom he described as the worthy successor of Ziaur Rahman. He noted that the government has undertaken a range of public welfare initiatives to fulfill its electoral commitments and improve the quality of life of citizens.
Faqir Mahbub Anam Swapan also urged party leaders and activists to stay away from terrorism, extortion, and land-grabbing politics. He stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of women and children and maintaining peace and social harmony.
“We must work in a way that allows people to say they made the right decision by voting for BNP,” he said.
Calling for party unity, the minister advised members not to create internal divisions and to refrain from activities that could cause public suffering. He also urged everyone to support the government's development initiatives aimed at building a peaceful and welfare-oriented state.
The programme concluded with special prayers seeking eternal peace for the soul of President Ziaur Rahman. Khichuri was later distributed among party leaders, activists, and members of the public as part of the community feast.
