DNCC Dismisses Viral Metro Rail Claims as AI-Generated Misinformation
Administrator of the Dhaka North City Corporation, Mohammad Shafiqul Islam Khan, has described various images and claims circulating on social media regarding the metro rail system as “completely false” and “misleading.” He alleged that artificial intelligence (AI)-generated images are being used in an attempt to damage the reputation of the government and DNCC.
He made the remarks on Saturday, 30 May, during a press conference organized to provide updates on the progress of sacrificial waste management activities following Eid-ul-Adha.
The DNCC administrator said that a number of rumors had been spread regarding the metro rail system. Referring to his personal inspection of the situation, he stated that social media posts claiming that protective grills alongside the metro rail line had been damaged or that passenger elevators had been rendered inoperable were entirely false and misleading.
“AI-generated images are being used to tarnish the image of the government and Dhaka North City Corporation,” he said. “In reality, the current condition of the metro rail system is completely normal.”
During the briefing, he also shared details about DNCC’s sacrificial waste management operations during Eid-ul-Adha. According to him, a total of 18,344 tonnes of sacrificial waste had been transported to landfill sites by 6:00 pm on Saturday over the three days of Eid celebrations.
Responding to a question regarding the temporary suspension of two officials, Shafiqul Islam Khan explained that some household waste had been found along a route used by the Prime Minister. Although the waste was not related to sacrificial activities, the two officials were temporarily suspended due to their responsibility for the area. He added that a final decision would be taken after further review.
The DNCC administrator further noted that city cleaning operations would continue in the coming days. He also announced that a mosquito control campaign aimed at preventing dengue outbreaks would begin from the following day.
