Professor Dr. F M Siddiqui, the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU), has assumed office. On his first working day, he had a busy schedule and delivered a directive speech outlining the university’s overall activities. On Monday, 6 April, he was welcomed with flowers at his office by the university administration at the beginning of the day.

The immediate past (acting) Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam; Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad; Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader; along with other concerned officials were present on the occasion.

The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor said, “Today is a very important day for me. I have a long association with this institution. While the university has a strong reputation, it also faces various problems. These issues must be resolved to meet the expectations of the general public.”

He further stated, “If everyone performs their assigned responsibilities properly, the university will move forward. Each individual must be conscious of their duties and work accordingly.”

The immediate past Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam expressed hope that under the leadership of the new Vice-Chancellor, the university will advance further in medical education, service, and research.

On his first working day, the Vice-Chancellor held separate meetings with the Pro-Vice Chancellors, Treasurer, Registrar, Deans, Departmental Chairmen, Course Directors, Medical Officers, and officials. He instructed departmental chairmen to evaluate the progress of departmental activities on a monthly basis and to utilize existing manpower to its fullest extent.

Addressing medical officers, he said, “You are the foundation of healthcare services. The attitude of doctors is reflected in their behavior toward patients. Regardless of personal challenges, patients must be served with a smile.”

Speaking to officials, he emphasized that everyone—from cleaners to the Vice-Chancellor—must perform their duties with honesty, dedication, and discipline. He expressed optimism that visible positive changes could be achieved within six months through collective efforts.

At one point during the day, the Vice-Chancellor visited the outpatient department to observe patient service activities and inquired about a successful kidney transplant patient undergoing treatment in the cabin block.
