Bangladesh, UK Discuss Expanding Cooperation in Education, Trade, and Aviation

Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and the Prime Minister’s Adviser Humayun Kabir held a bilateral meeting in London with UK Minister of State for Trade Chris Bryant to further strengthen cooperation in the education, trade, and aviation sectors. The meeting, held on Monday, 9 March (local time), placed particular emphasis on creating investment opportunities in Bangladesh’s blue economy sector, expanding the “Made in Bangladesh” brand, and enhancing multilateral cooperation.

The information was disclosed in a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs early Tuesday, 10 March.

According to the statement, the meeting discussed various aspects of strengthening the existing trade and business relations between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom. Among the key issues highlighted were creating investment opportunities in Bangladesh’s blue economy sector, expanding the “Made in Bangladesh” brand, safeguarding investors’ interests, and increasing cooperation in the education sector.

Both sides also agreed to maintain regular communication ahead of the 14th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO), scheduled to be held in Cameroon at the end of this month.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom’s Trade Envoy to Bangladesh, Baroness Rosie Winterton of Doncaster DBE, met Foreign Affairs Adviser Rahman and Prime Minister’s Adviser Kabir at the Bangladesh High Commission in London. During the meeting, they discussed potential cooperation in the aviation sector and initiatives to develop Bangladesh as a regional aviation hub.

The two delegations also held separate meetings focusing on the development of Bangladesh’s aviation sector.

In addition, Professor Dapo Akande, the United Kingdom’s candidate for the position of judge at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for the 2027–2036 term, met Foreign Affairs Adviser Rahman and Prime Minister’s Adviser Kabir to present his candidacy.

During the meeting, both sides expressed satisfaction with the existing cooperation between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom in various multilateral forums and intergovernmental elections, and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening this partnership in the fields of international law and diplomacy.
