Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb Urges ‘Yes’ Vote for a New Bangladesh
Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, the chief adviser-designate and special assistant in charge of the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology, has called on citizens to vote “Yes” in the 2026 referendum, aiming to realise the vision of a new Bangladesh.
On Wednesday, January 21, he made the appeal during a referendum awareness program held at the Gazipur District Administration Auditorium, where he served as the chief guest.
Commenting on the upcoming vote, the special assistant said, “This will be the country’s best election yet,” citing the use of advanced technology. He added that all polling centres will be equipped with CCTV cameras, and polling police will wear body cameras, ensuring that all video images are recorded. This, he noted, would prevent any wrongdoing.
Taiyeb emphasised, “The referendum is a crucial democratic process. Successful, transparent, and participatory conduct requires coordinated efforts from all levels of the administration.” He highlighted the importance of administrative preparedness and coordination for the voting process.
Discussing urban development, he said, “Building new cities is everyone’s responsibility. A coordinated master plan is essential, covering worker housing, transport, and other urban infrastructure reforms.”
He further stressed the need for constitutional reforms, pointing out, “Our constitution has been amended repeatedly to concentrate excessive power in one individual. We need a constitution that does not give one person unlimited authority.” He added that Bangladesh’s current governance system requires reform to ensure power balance, decentralisation, and institutional capacity, initiatives the interim government has prioritised.
Taiyeb said, “The interim government’s primary mandate was reform, justice, and election. People’s participation is essential to implement reforms, overcoming the entrenched status quo. Collective awareness is key to sustainable reform.”
Urging citizens to support the referendum, he concluded, “We aim to overcome the 54 years of accumulated problems and gift a new Bangladesh to our children and students. Vote ‘Yes’ to help establish this vision.”
The program was presided over by Gazipur District Commissioner Mohammad Alam Hossain and attended by Additional Police Commissioner Taherul Haque, Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Sohel Hasan, local imams, madrasa teachers, students from schools and colleges, and representatives of various local institutions.
Later, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb met with Gazipur district election officials at the Bhawal Conference Room to discuss preparations for the 13th National Parliament Election and the 2026 Referendum.
