French cosmetics giant L’Oréal has announced a major investment in India’s beauty and technology sector, unveiling plans to establish a “beauty tech” hub in Hyderabad, southern India. The company said it will initially invest 35 billion rupees, equivalent to approximately USD 383 million, in the project, according to Channel News Asia.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, L’Oréal said the hub will function as a global centre for artificial intelligence–driven beauty innovation. The company aims to create nearly 2,000 technology-related jobs at the facility by 2030. The hub is also expected to play a key role in accelerating the development and market rollout of advanced AI-powered beauty solutions.

The investment partnership was finalised on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, following discussions between L’Oréal Chief Executive Officer Nicolas Hieronimus and the government of India’s Telangana state. In recent years, Telangana has emerged as one of southern India’s most important hubs for investment and technology-driven growth.

It is noteworthy that in 2024, bilateral trade between India and France stood at approximately USD 15 billion. The leaders of both countries—Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron—have recently been actively working to further strengthen bilateral relations. Alongside this, the two nations have been engaged in discussions since 2024 on modernising their tax treaty in line with global standards on tax transparency.
