Neuralink Nears Mass Manufacturing of Brain–Computer Implants
Elon Musk has said that his brain-implant company Neuralink will begin “high-volume production” of its brain–computer interface (BCI) devices from 2026 and transition to a fully automated surgical process. Musk shared the update in a post on social media platform X, according to Reuters.
Neuralink’s implant is primarily designed to assist people suffering from severe neurological conditions, including spinal cord injuries. The first trial patient has already demonstrated the ability to play video games, browse the internet, post on social media and control a laptop cursor using the technology.
After overcoming safety-related objections from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Neuralink began human trials in 2024.
The company said that at least 12 people worldwide with severe paralysis are currently using the implant. In June, Neuralink also raised USD 650 million in fresh investment, signalling strong investor confidence in the emerging neurotechnology sector.
