PayPal Pushes Global Payments with ‘PayPal World’
PayPal has announced the launch of its upcoming platform, PayPal World, aimed at simplifying cross-border transactions for over two billion users by integrating global payment systems — including popular digital wallets from China and India. The development was reported by TechCrunch.
The new platform brings together India's UPI (via NPCI International) and China’s WeChat Pay (through Tenpay Global), alongside PayPal and Venmo. Additionally, PayPal has signed a memorandum of understanding with Latin American payment service Mercado Pago.
With PayPal World, a traveler visiting China could pay by simply scanning a WeChat QR code, while an Indian shopper could complete purchases on a U.S.-based website using UPI — making international transactions far more accessible.
“This is the first time a platform brings together the world’s major payment methods and will make global commerce significantly easier,” said PayPal CEO Alex Chriss.
PayPal World is expected to launch in Fall 2025, with Venmo users gaining access for both online and offline purchases by 2026.
