Dhaka–Karachi Direct Flights Likely to Launch in January
Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Imran Haider, has expressed optimism that direct flights between Dhaka and Karachi will begin in January.
The High Commissioner made the remarks during a courtesy call on Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka on Sunday, December 28.
During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two South Asian countries by expanding cooperation in trade, investment and aviation, alongside enhancing cultural, educational and medical exchanges.
Highlighting growing economic ties, the Pakistani envoy noted that bilateral trade has increased by 20 percent compared to last year, while business communities in both countries are actively exploring new investment opportunities.
He also pointed to a notable rise in cultural and educational exchanges, saying Bangladeshi students have shown strong interest in pursuing higher education in Pakistan, particularly in medical sciences, nanotechnology and artificial intelligence.
Haider further said that the number of patients travelling to Pakistan for liver and kidney transplants has increased, adding that Pakistan is ready to offer training and academic opportunities in transplant-related medical fields.
Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus welcomed the growing engagement between the two countries and stressed the importance of increasing travel among SAARC member states, as well as promoting cultural, educational and people-to-people exchanges.
Professor Yunus also underscored the need to further boost Bangladesh–Pakistan trade and expressed hope that during High Commissioner Haider’s tenure, both countries would explore new avenues for investment and joint business ventures.
SDG Coordinator and Senior Secretary Lamiya Morshed was also present at the meeting.
