Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) on Sunday held an exchange-of-views meeting to review the research progress of PhD scholars who are receiving research grants under the university’s PhD programme.

The meeting took place on December 28 at the Shaheed Dr Milton Hall of BMU, with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam presiding.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor described the PhD programme as a “beacon of light” for BMU, stating that research conducted by PhD scholars would play a significant role in improving the university’s national and global rankings.

He further emphasized that research findings from the programme could influence national policymaking and even have international impact, making the selection of research topics critically important.

Highlighting Bangladesh’s large patient population, Professor Shahinul Alam said the country’s extensive health data repositories could serve as an inexhaustible resource for meaningful research. He expressed hope that BMU’s research would contribute not only nationally but also internationally.

He added that adequate funding arrangements have been made and that the university administration is providing continuous support to researchers.

BMU Treasurer Professor Dr Nahreen Akhter stressed the importance of discovery through research and urged scholars to select topics that would directly benefit patients and serve national interests.
