A land lease agreement has been signed between the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) and MEP Hi-Tech Industrial Park Limited to establish a modern electrical products manufacturing facility in the National Special Economic Zone (NSEZ) at Mirersarai, Chattogram. The agreement was finalized on Wednesday, 18 February, at a ceremony held at the BEZA office.

Under the agreement, MEP Group’s subsidiary, MEP Hi-Tech Industrial Park Limited, will develop a state-of-the-art electrical and electronics product manufacturing cluster on nearly 10 acres within the NSEZ. The project will involve approximately BDT 200 crore in domestic investment.

BEZA was represented by Additional Secretary and Executive Member (Investment Promotion) Saleh Ahmad, while MEP Group was represented by Chairman Shakil Alam Chakladar.

Implementation of the project is scheduled to begin in April 2026, with construction expected to be completed by December 2028. Commercial production is slated to start in January 2029. Once operational, the facility is expected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities for around 2,000 people.

Currently, about 15 industrial units are operational within the Mirersarai NSEZ, with approximately 20 more under construction. Along the 25-kilometer coastal stretch, this industrial zone is developing both manufacturing facilities and urban amenities.

The proposed factory will produce a variety of electrical and electronic products, including electrical wires, switches and sockets, fans, LED lights, and circuit breakers. The initiative aims to reduce import dependency for domestic demand while also increasing exports in international markets.

Saleh Ahmad, BEZA’s Executive Member (Investment Promotion), emphasized that investments from domestic industrial groups like MEP play a crucial role in reducing import reliance, diversifying exports, and promoting technology-driven industrialization. He assured investors of continued support from BEZA.

MEP Group Managing Director Jahangir Alam Chakladar stated that preparations are underway to establish an environmentally friendly and technology-driven industrial facility with BEZA’s assistance. He expressed optimism that the project would not only boost domestic production of electrical products but also contribute significantly to future export markets.
