E-BailBond Breakthrough: Bridging Barriers to Justice
With a single click, the twelve-step hurdle to bail has been overcome. In a landmark move towards ensuring justice and protecting citizens’ rights, the E-BailBond system—an online bail facility—was officially launched in Narayanganj, the first among the districts surrounding the capital, on Wednesday, October 15.
The inauguration ceremony was held at the tennis ground of the District Circuit House, where Dr. Asif Nazrul, Adviser to the Chief Adviser on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, officially launched the service. The event was also attended by the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant (Posts, Telecommunications, and ICT) Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb and Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman.
As a symbolic gesture of liberation from oppression, Narayanganj was chosen as the launching site for the pilot phase of E-BailBond. “This is not an isolated event. The initiative has been taken to reduce public suffering and establish justice through the digital transformation of the judiciary. Soon, it will be introduced nationwide,” said Dr. Nazrul, emphasizing that ICT support will be used to simplify the process further.
He also highlighted the importance of reforming higher courts alongside the lower judiciary, fulfilling a longstanding demand of district lawyers.
Special guest Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb remarked, “Our own ICT engineers have developed this software. If needed, we can also build a mobile application for the e-bail system. There is no alternative to making the justice system citizen-friendly through complete digital transformation.”
He further suggested integrating the SSL Gateway for payment of bail fees within the e-bail process and recommended using digital signatures instead of QR codes to ensure cybersecurity.
Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman stated, “By introducing E-BailBond, this government has set an example of being a humane administration, free from bias. The trial of the seven-murder case will soon reach the Appellate Division for swift resolution.”
Law Secretary Liaqat Ali Molya noted, “This initiative is not only about technology but also about transforming perspectives. It marks a journey from darkness to light.”
It was announced that the digital transformation of the criminal justice system will enable this service to function in four online steps, with a dedicated WhatsApp group opened to facilitate communication.
In his welcome address, Narayanganj District and Sessions Judge Abu Shakmin Azad expressed gratitude to the government for introducing the E-BailBond or online bail bond system.
