Journalists Urged to Embrace Technology for Staying Relevant

Journalists must adapt to new technologies and stay updated with advancements to remain relevant alongside the younger generation, said Faruk Wasif, Director General of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB). He made this call on Wednesday (March 19) while inaugurating a training session on mobile journalism in Chandpur.

Faruk Wasif urged journalists to establish themselves individually, stating, "Those engaged in journalism today must equip themselves with modern technology and professional training to keep up with the new generation. That is why PIB is conducting mobile journalism training across the country."

He also emphasized the importance of careful and responsible journalism, advising reporters to verify background information before publishing stories. "We cannot merely highlight conventional narratives of development; we must present the real picture. Wherever necessary, we must bring forward the actual issues on the ground," he added.

The three-day training program commenced at 9:00 AM at the Chandpur Press Club auditorium. The event was presided over by Rahim Badsha, President of Chandpur Press Club, and moderated by its General Secretary, Kader Palash. The welcome speech was delivered by Zilhaj Uddin Nipun, Assistant Trainer at PIB. On the first day, senior PIB trainer Mohammad Shahabuddin conducted a session on mobile journalism.

A total of 35 journalists from online, television, and print media organizations participated in the training program, which is aimed at enhancing their skills in digital reporting and storytelling.
