DCCI Drives Dialogue on Digital Tax Declarations
A workshop titled “Personal Income Tax and E-Return” was held on Saturday (September 27) at the auditorium of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), with the participation of employees from member institutions. More than 70 representatives from DCCI member organizations attended the event.
The workshop featured three sessions covering income tax, VAT, and e-return. Key presentations were delivered by Lutful Hadi, CEO of Hadi Lutful & Co.; Md. Shafiqul Islam of Biz Solutions Ltd.; and Snehasis Barua, Partner at Snehasis Mohammad & Co.
In his presidential address, the DCCI President called on the business community to adopt e-return processes to overcome the existing barriers in tax payment. He emphasized, “Through tax revenues, the government develops national infrastructure, provides education, healthcare, and implements various social safety programs. Therefore, paying income tax is a moral responsibility of every citizen and entrepreneur in order to strengthen the country’s economic foundation.”
He further noted that Bangladesh’s income tax contribution to GDP is significantly lower compared to other countries, and this situation must change through higher tax compliance. He stated, “Alongside encouraging people to pay income tax, the government has introduced the e-return system to eliminate existing barriers in the tax process. This will ensure transparency and accountability in tax administration. By using the e-return process, both individual taxpayers and businesses will be encouraged to come forward in paying taxes.”
Senior Vice-President of DCCI Rajib H. Chowdhury and Vice-President Md. Salim Solaiman were also present at the event.
