BTCL Brings Bangladesh’s First Triple-Play and Quad-Play Services
For the first time in Bangladesh, the state-owned telecommunications company Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) is set to launch triple-play and quad-play services. The initiative aims to create a breakthrough in the communications landscape by ensuring access to devices, voice, data, and entertainment—making everyday life easier, according to Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology to the Chief Adviser.
Confirming the development on Saturday night (September 27), Taiyeb said BTCL will officially share further details through a media briefing in October.
Speaking about the initiative, Taiyeb stated, “We want to remove the stagnation of limited voice, limited data, limited content, and device restrictions in people’s communication and entertainment.”
He explained that BTCL will provide conditional unlimited voice calls through MVNO and mobile SIM services as well as through the BTCL Alap iPhone app-based voice calling system. Unlimited data will be ensured via BTCL Jibon and BTCL ISP connections.
BTCL’s quad-play package will feature devices, voice, data, and entertainment access. To address piracy issues surrounding OTT platforms, BTCL will initially integrate limited-content OTT services, partnering with platforms such as Bongo, Chorki, and Hoichoi to provide unlimited entertainment. He added that Netflix or Amazon Prime could be included at a later stage.
To tackle the ongoing issue of access to devices, Taiyeb also revealed that BTCL will introduce a plan to provide smartphones under a one-year package, payable in monthly installments of only Tk 500, with a small initial deposit.
