Divisional Discoveries: BdJSO Regional Rounds in Dhaka & Rangpur

The 11th Bangladesh Junior Science Olympiad (BdJSO) 2025, organized by Al-Arafah Islami Bank, successfully concluded its regional rounds for Dhaka and Rangpur divisions on Saturday, August 23, with enthusiastic participation from school and college students.

The regional Olympiads aim to cultivate students’ interest in science, with the top performers from these rounds progressing to the national stage organized by Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN). This second phase of the regional rounds involved students from Dhaka and Rangpur divisions, following the first phase for students from Khulna and Rajshahi divisions.

According to the organizers, over 17,000 students registered both online and offline across more than 100 educational institutions in over 50 district towns nationwide. Selected students from the online preliminary round held on August 6 participated in the offline regional rounds in their respective divisions.

In Dhaka, nearly 700 students from Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Munshiganj, Manikganj, Tangail, and Narsingdi districts participated. The Dhaka regional round officially began at 8:30 a.m., with students seated in designated classrooms for a one-hour and fifteen-minute examination.

The event was attended by Sazzadur Rahman Chowdhury, Executive Director of Bangladesh Freedom Foundation; Jalal Ahmed, Senior Vice President of Al-Arafah Islami Bank; Professor B.M. Moinul Hossain, Director of the Institute of Information Technology, University of Dhaka; and Munir Hasan, President of BdOSN.

Meanwhile, the Rangpur regional round commenced with the national anthem at 9:00 a.m., followed by a one-hour and fifteen-minute examination. Around 300 students from Rangpur, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Joypurhat, and Gaibandha districts took part. The event was attended by Al-Imran, Senior Assistant Vice President of Al-Arafah Islami Bank, Rangpur branch; Gazi Salauddin, Senior Teacher of Rangpur Zilla School; and Ariful Haq Raju, Senior Journalist of Prothom Alo.

The winners of the regional rounds will participate in the national stage in Dhaka. From there, approximately 60 top students will attend the BdJSO Camp, where intensive training and preparation will determine the best six participants to form Bangladesh’s team for the 22nd International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) 2025 in Russia in December. Since 2015, Bangladesh Science Popularization Society has regularly sent teams to this international competition.

As usual, BdJSO is jointly organized by the Bangladesh Science Popularization Society and Bangladesh Freedom Foundation, with MassLab and Rokomari as supporting partners.
