Token Tuition, Tremendous Transformation
A new e-learning platform, ‘100 Taka Shiksha’ (100 Taka Tuition), has made its debut by offering courses for job preparation, admissions guidance, and skill development for just 100 taka.
The platform was inaugurated on Saturday, August 23, at the Poet Sufia Kamal Auditorium of the National Museum in Shahbagh, Dhaka, by Professor Mohammad Absar Kamal, Director of the Institute of Modern Languages at the University of Dhaka.
He said, “I feel this is not just a platform; it is like a one-stop service. This platform could include foreign language learning, IELTS preparation, general knowledge for BCS exams, public speaking, personality development, and even recreational courses such as recitation and music in the future. Through this initiative, not only will education be accessible for 100 taka, but it will also create a significant opportunity to reduce inequalities in the education system.”
Addressing the platform’s founders, he emphasized, “Under no circumstances should there be any compromise on quality and standards.”
He added, “It is crucial to have experienced subject-specific teachers for every course so that students can learn something they did not get in school. This will increase the platform’s acceptance and expand the number of beneficiaries.”
Referencing the COVID-19 pandemic, Professor Kamal said, “It highlighted the importance of online learning. Without the pandemic, we would not have realized the potential of online education. Perhaps this experience inspired the founders to launch this platform.”
He further stated, “The 100 taka fee is not truly money; it is only a token amount. The initiative is so thoughtfully planned that it will gain popularity quickly and benefit everyone.”
In his remarks, Shariful Hasan, Deputy Director at BRAC, said, “The biggest crisis in today’s Bangladesh is a crisis of people and values. Our conversations revolve around gossip; we celebrate when someone suffers. We seem to find joy amid destruction. Education must serve to create better humans, and this initiative attempts exactly that.”
The project’s CEO and founder, Amirul Momenin, said, “If we observe our socio-economic situation, we are passing through many challenges, and one key reason is education. I have realized that if the education system is strong, it positively affects other areas.”
He added, “Currently, we have uploaded 20 courses in this project, covering education, career development, and academic skills. Here, anyone can learn what they want with assured quality.”
