Facebook Fuses Formats: All Videos to Be Reels Soon

Facebook has announced a significant shift in its video-sharing policy: all videos—regardless of length or orientation—will now be shared as Reels. Previously, users could post standard videos and Reels separately, but under the new update, that distinction will no longer exist. The report was first published by TechCrunch.

The platform's dedicated “Video” tab will also be renamed “Reels,” though Facebook clarified that there will be “no immediate changes to how videos are recommended or categorized.”

In the coming months, users will no longer be prompted to choose between posting a regular video or a Reel—all videos will automatically be published as Reels. The earlier 90-second limit on Reels is also being removed.

Similar to its approach on Instagram, Facebook aims to unify its video format, making creative tools and publishing processes more streamlined. However, this change may pose difficulties for some users—particularly those who prefer not to view or share horizontally filmed videos as Reels.

Under the new system, settings for audience visibility on the News Feed and Reels will be managed together. While posting, users will be able to select who can view their Reels—“Everyone,” “Friends,” or a custom audience.

This transformation will be rolled out globally in phases.
