Trump Tells Tech Titans to Tackle Power: Companies Urged to Build Own Energy Centers

U.S. President Donald Trump has directed major technology companies to construct their own power plants to supply electricity for their data centers. He announced the directive on Tuesday, February 24, during his “State of the Union” address to the United States Congress. The report is from Reuters.

Trump explained that the decision aims to prevent increased electricity costs for ordinary consumers due to rising power demand. He described the initiative as a “Rate Payer Protection Pledge.”

“We rely on an old grid that is not capable of meeting such vast electricity demand. Therefore, I am telling them that they can build their own power centers and generate the electricity they require themselves. This will ensure that companies receive sufficient power while also lowering electricity prices for you,” Trump said.

He did not provide details on which companies have been instructed to implement this plan or how it will be executed. However, two White House sources indicated that meetings with the companies will be arranged in early March to formalize the initiative.

Concerns have emerged among local residents in various U.S. regions regarding the establishment of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. The primary worry is that constructing these centers could increase local electricity demand and drive up costs. The United States’ largest power grid operator, PG&E Interconnection, has already announced a plan allowing large electricity consumers to provide their own generation capacity or limit usage during periods of grid stress.
