Trump’s TikTok Takeoff: White House Launches Official Account
The White House has formally launched its official account on TikTok. The new account, @whitehouse, went live on Tuesday evening with its first video featuring President Donald Trump, in which he declared: “I am your voice.” The caption of the video read: “America, we are back! What’s up TikTok?” according to Reuters.
Previously, Trump credited TikTok for helping him expand support among young voters, a factor that played a crucial role in his victory over Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. His campaign account, @realdonaldtrump, has already amassed more than 15 million followers.
However, U.S. lawmakers have voiced concerns that TikTok’s parent company, the Chinese firm ByteDance, could potentially hand over American user data to Beijing. This prompted a 2024 law requiring TikTok to either shut down operations in the U.S. market or be sold to American investors. Nonetheless, since assuming office for a second term, Trump has extended the implementation deadlines of the law several times.
A White House spokesperson stated that President Trump will continue to use various platforms, including TikTok, to deliver his message to as many people as possible.
