Parliament Expands Gallery Access to Promote Civic Learning for Students
A total of 50 seats are currently allocated in the National Parliament gallery for students under the age of 12. Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milan submitted a letter to the Speaker requesting the allocation of an additional 100 seats for students in the visitors’ gallery. The Speaker approved the request.
The Ministry of Education disclosed this information on Friday, April 10.
According to the ministry, the move will allow more students to directly observe parliamentary proceedings, helping familiarize future generations with the practices of parliamentary and democratic systems.
In this regard, the Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister stated that Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman used to take students on river excursions so they could gain knowledge about the country’s resources and potential. “As Education Minister, I also want Gen-Z to understand the state and become politically aware,” he said.
When the minister discussed the matter with National Parliament Secretary Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, he welcomed the initiative. The Parliament Secretary noted that when students visit Parliament, they will be briefed in detail about its functions before the session begins. This will help them learn about the architecture, history, and heritage of the country’s legislature.
