AWS Infrastructure Hit: Iran Strike Disrupts Amazon Cloud Operations in Bahrain

Amazon’s cloud computing service AWS infrastructure in Bahrain has been damaged following an Iranian attack, according to a report by the Financial Times. Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior stated that emergency responders are working to control a fire at a company’s infrastructure after the Iranian strike. However, the ministry did not immediately disclose which company was affected or the extent of the damage, Reuters reports.

Earlier last month, an Iranian drone attack also caused a fire at an Amazon data center in the United Arab Emirates. Last week, the company confirmed that its AWS region in Bahrain had been “disrupted” amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. This marks the second time within a month that Amazon’s operations have been impacted by the conflict.

A day before the attack, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued threats targeting US technology companies operating in the Middle East. The warning specifically mentioned companies including Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Tesla, instructing their employees to “immediately leave their workplaces.”

Amazon’s cloud unit AWS is essential for running many popular websites and government operations and serves as a major source of the company’s profits. The AWS region in Bahrain provides services across the entire Middle East.

Recently, Amazon announced plans to invest an additional $5 billion in the United Arab Emirates between 2026 and 2030. However, analysts fear that this plan may be disrupted due to the attack.
