Apple is preparing to introduce a major privacy-focused upgrade to its voice assistant Siri at the upcoming WWDC 2026, with automatic chat history deletion expected to become one of the platform’s headline features.

According to a recent report by Mark Gurman, the revamped Siri experience will include flexible controls allowing users to automatically erase conversations after a selected period. The move is seen as part of Apple’s broader strategy to position its artificial intelligence ecosystem as more privacy-centric than rival AI chatbot platforms.

The report states that Apple is also preparing to launch a fully standalone Siri application for the first time. Powered by Google’s Gemini AI model, the app is expected to deliver an experience similar to popular conversational chatbots such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Unlike many competing AI services that store user conversations indefinitely, the new Siri app is expected to offer automatic deletion options similar to the Messages app on iPhone. Users will reportedly be able to set chat histories to disappear after 30 days or one year, while also retaining the option to preserve conversations permanently if they choose.

Industry analysts believe Apple’s strong emphasis on privacy is intended to differentiate Siri from competing AI platforms developed by companies including OpenAI and Microsoft. Analysts also suggest that although Google may handle significant portions of the underlying AI processing and security infrastructure behind the scenes, Apple is likely to market the system primarily as a highly secure in-house experience.

Apple is expected to officially unveil the new Siri capabilities during WWDC in June.
