Nasiruddin Patwari, Chief Coordinator of the National Citizen's Party (NCP), has questioned the opening of Awami League offices in various parts of the country despite the party being banned.

On Monday, 23rd February, he raised this issue in a post on his verified Facebook account, tagging Hasnat Abdullah, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Cumilla-4 (Debidwar) and Chief Organiser of the NCP.

Nasiruddin Patwari wrote, "Where's Hasnat Abdullah? The League is starting to open shop. The election is over, now for reforms and justice."

He later added in the comments section, "We will definitely bring to justice the perpetrators of the killings of '24 and the murderers of Shaheed Osman."

Prior to this post, news surfaced that NCP leader Hasnat Abdullah was unexpectedly seen in the remote hill areas of Lama and Alikadam Upazilas in Bandarban on Sunday, 22nd February, despite Nasiruddin Patwari searching for him on Facebook. According to local journalists citing eyewitnesses, Hasnat Abdullah offered Zohr prayers at a mosque near the Yangcha checkpoint in Lama Upazila that afternoon. He was later seen in Lama Bazaar and then travelling in Alikadam Bazaar and on the Matamuhuri River. He was wearing blue jeans, a black jersey, and a face mask. He was accompanied by several people. Little is known about the reason for his sudden brief visit.

Meanwhile, Md. Nazmul Hossain, NCP Coordinator for Lama Upazila, said he was unaware of the visit in an organisational capacity. He stated that he had heard about Hasnat's trip, but it was entirely a personal one.

On 5th August 2024, the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina fell following a mass uprising of students and the public. An interim government then took office on 8th August.

In the thirteenth national parliamentary election held on 12th February under the interim government, the BNP-led government came to power with a majority. In this election, Hasnat won from Cumilla, while Nasiruddin contested from Dhaka-8 but lost.

After the BNP government came to power, leaders and activists of the Awami League are opening party offices in different parts of the country. NCP leaders and activists are subsequently closing them down again.
