Fake Freelance Fraud: Five, Including Chinese National, Nabbed in Online Job Scam

Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) have arrested five members of an international fraud syndicate—including a Chinese national—for swindling money from unsuspecting individuals by luring them with promises of earning money online from home.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Md. Mizanur Rahman (31) from Boali village, Madhupur, Tangail; Abdus Sattar (42) from Birkhashia village, Ghatail, Tangail; Masum Billah (25) from Officerpara, Dhunat, Bogura; Md. Asaduzzaman (32) from Upshohor, Dinajpur Sadar; and Ma Fiubin, a Chinese citizen.
According to the police, all five were residing in the Bashundhara Residential Area under the capital’s Vatara Police Station. At a press briefing held at GMP headquarters on Tuesday afternoon, it was disclosed that GMP’s Cyber Crime Monitoring Team (North) conducted a targeted raid in the Bashundhara area based on precise intelligence and arrested the suspects early that morning. Five mobile phones used in the fraud operation were also seized.
Preliminary interrogation and analysis of the devices revealed that Ma Fiubin was acting as an agent in Bangladesh. His accomplices, based in China, were luring ordinary people through a Telegram group named “WayFair Work Solitions01357,” promising easy income opportunities from home. Once the victims were onboarded, the fraudsters gradually extracted large sums of money from them.
Ma Fiubin reportedly used bank, bKash, and Nagad accounts of his Bangladeshi associates to siphon the funds and transfer them to the fraud ring’s international networks. Police have initially identified the operation as a well-organized transnational scam.
A regular case has been filed at Gazipur Metropolitan Police’s Sadar Police Station. Law enforcement authorities confirmed that efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest other fugitive members of the network.
The press conference was attended by GMP Deputy Police Commissioner (North) Rezaur Rahman, Deputy Police Commissioner (South) Ashok Kumar Paul, Assistant Commissioner (DB) Amir Hossain, and other senior officers.
