DNCC Drives to Dismantle Unauthorized Autorickshaw Infrastructure

Administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mohammad Ejaz has announced that a crackdown will soon begin to shut down workshops and charging stations for battery-powered autorickshaws within Dhaka city. He stated, "The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has already compiled a list of autorickshaw workshops and charging stations. Very soon, we will conduct nighttime operations to close them."
He made these remarks on Saturday (April 26) while inaugurating road and footpath construction works in Pallabi, Mirpur, Dhaka.
Following previous unsuccessful efforts to curb unauthorized autorickshaw operations—where enforcement faced protests and disorder—the DNCC and DMP are now jointly pursuing this initiative.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the DNCC Administrator urged residential community associations to be vigilant. "We request homeowners' associations in different areas to prevent unauthorized autorickshaws from entering your neighborhoods. Do not allow activities that deviate from the planned purpose of your residential areas. No commercial activities should be permitted in residential zones," he said. "If the local community cooperates with the City Corporation, it will be easier to eliminate unauthorized autorickshaws and illegal street vendors."
Among others, DNCC’s Chief Executive Officer Abu Saeed Md. Kamruzzaman, Chief Engineer Brigadier General Md. Moin Uddin, Additional Chief Engineer Mohammad Arifur Rahman, Regional Executive Officer Md. Ziaur Rahman, Superintendent Engineer Khandaker Mahbub Alam, and Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP Convener Aminul Haque were present at the event.
