Culture, Care & Knowledge: Beximco Pharma Celebrates Pohela Boishakh with Khona’s Wisdom
One of the country’s leading pharmaceutical manufacturers, Beximco Pharmaceuticals PLC, has celebrated Bangla New Year 1433 by emphasizing the traditional culture, health, dietary habits, and agriculture of Bengal. The company marked this year’s Pahela Baishakh under the theme “Bochone Bachun”, drawing inspiration from the sayings of Khona.
According to historians, Khona, a learned Bengali woman skilled in astronomy between approximately the 8th and 12th centuries, composed numerous aphorisms on agriculture, weather, crop care, and lifestyle. Over time, these sayings have become deeply embedded in rural life. Even today, many farmers rely on Khona’s wisdom in their agricultural practices.
In this year’s celebrations, Beximco Pharma highlighted these aspects of agriculture, lifestyle, and health science. The company incorporated various sayings of Khona into its calendars and office décor, including: “Do not block light and air / Do not suffer and die from disease”; “The farmer and the ploughed land / Together make the nation pure”; “He who sleeps early and rises early / His wealth is not taken by physicians”; “From the tenth of Chaitra to the twelfth of Baishakh / Sow Aus paddy within this period,” among others.
Chief Operating Officer of Beximco Pharmaceuticals, Rabbur Reza, said that Khona’s sayings are an inseparable part of Bengali history and culture. Their relevance in matters of health, diet, and lifestyle remains equally significant today. He noted that these teachings have guided people toward healthy living across generations.
He further stated, “Driven by this belief, Beximco Pharma continues to stand beside people. Our goal is to ensure a healthy life for the nation through science-based research, modern technology, and responsible pharmaceutical production. From prevention to treatment, we are working to deliver reliable and sustainable solutions at every stage of healthcare.”
He also expressed optimism that, with the advent of the new Bangla year, a new chapter of hope for a healthier future for the people of the country can be written.
