Digital Clinic Launched as Short Film Winners Honoured for Cancer Awareness
A digital clinic dedicated to cancer treatment and patient care was inaugurated alongside the award ceremony of a short film competition held to promote cancer awareness.
The inauguration took place at the World Literature Centre in Dhaka on Monday afternoon, February 2, with the ceremony formally opened by eminent geneticist Abed Chowdhury.
The event was addressed by National Film Award–winning filmmaker Masih Uddin Shaker, renowned cancer specialist Professor Dr Syed Akram Hossain, Professor Habibullah Talukdar Rasquin, and Professor Amirul Morshed Khosru.
Chaired by Md Ruman Sikder, Assistant Professor at Jagannath University and President of ICSA, the speakers underscored the importance of timely initiatives, public awareness, and the effective use of technology in cancer prevention.
In the first segment of the programme, prizes were awarded to three winners of the cancer-themed short film competition. Simanta Barua won the championship for his short film “Durotto”, while Md Jasim Uddin Emon, creator of “Alor Dikei”, secured the first runner-up position. The second runner-up award went to Shikha Rowaja for her short film “Bachte Chai”.
Speakers expressed optimism that these awareness-focused short films would help dispel misconceptions about cancer among the general public and play a positive role in disease management. They noted that the powerful language of cinema and storytelling can easily engage people, making it a highly effective medium for spreading cancer awareness.
In the second segment, a digital clinic was launched to provide medical consultation services for cancer patients. Through this platform, patients from remote parts of the country will be able to receive expert advice from specialist physicians. Developed by CCRTB, the digital clinic platform is expected to be particularly beneficial for people in underserved and rural areas, enabling easy access to primary cancer-related information, guidance, and direct connections with specialists. Speakers expressed hope that this digital solution would make cancer care more inclusive and affordable.
The event’s chair and welcome address were delivered by Dr Mushtaq Ibn Ayub, Associate Professor at the University of Dhaka, molecular oncologist, and Founding President of CCRTB. The programme was moderated by Md Kamrul Islam, Member of the Board of Trustees and Treasurer of CCRTB. Among others who spoke were Kazi Md Jamshed, Member of the Board of Trustees of CCRTB, and Professor Hafiz Khan.
Overall, the event was widely praised as a successful blend of expert knowledge, social responsibility, and creative initiative. Organisers expressed hope that such efforts would continue in the future, further strengthening public awareness and empowering people in cancer prevention and management.
