Apple Axes Air: Production Slashed Amid Lukewarm Market Response
Apple is reportedly scaling back both production and supply of its iPhone Air model, according to renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. He stated that “most suppliers will reduce their production capacity by over 80 percent by the first quarter of 2026.” Even components that require long-term preparation may “cease production by the end of 2025,” Kuo added, as reported by GSM Arena.
Industry analysts believe that, much like the iPhone Mini and iPhone Plus models, the iPhone Air has failed to generate the expected market enthusiasm. However, they note that this does not necessarily indicate that the model has been a complete failure.
Traditionally, Apple’s iPhone Pro series has consistently outperformed other variants in terms of sales. The company may therefore be limiting the Air model’s production to further boost sales of its Pro versions.
Apple’s vast supply chain gives the company flexibility to swiftly adjust its manufacturing and market strategies. Historically, non-Pro models have sometimes gained momentum a few months after release. Yet, many industry observers now fear that “this may be the only iPhone Air model Apple ever produces.”
