Honor Unveils Self-Moving ‘Robot Phone’ With AI Camera at MWC
Chinese technology company Honor has revealed detailed features of its upcoming “Robot Phone.” Ahead of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, the company announced at an event that the phone’s camera can move autonomously and respond to different situations without any user instruction. Honor plans to launch the phone in the market in the second half of this year, according to TechCrunch.
The company claims that the robot has its own “personality.” It can nod to engage in conversation with users and dance in rhythm with music. Users will be able to interact with this assistant via text and voice commands. In a demonstration video, a person asks for fashion advice, and the robot indicates approval or disapproval by nodding.
The phone features a 200-megapixel camera mounted on a three-axis gimbal system. Honor stated that the camera can rotate smoothly to capture videos and photos, and it includes a “Super Steady Mode” for video recording. With the “SpinShot” feature, the camera can rotate 90 or 180 degrees to capture cinematic shots.
During video calls, the robot camera can track the user using AI-driven object tracking. If it functions correctly, the company claims it will outperform Apple’s Center Stage feature.
Honor has developed its own micro-motor to control the movement of the robot camera. By utilizing some technologies from foldable phones, the four-degree-of-freedom gimbal system has been integrated into the phone body. The robot arm uses material with 2,800 MPa tensile strength, similar to the hinge used in Honor’s Magic V6 foldable phone.
At the MWC event, Honor also unveiled its new foldable phone Magic V6 with a 6,600 mAh battery, the MagicPad 4 tablet, and the MagicBook 14 laptop.
