Alaska Airlines suspended all of its flights on Sunday due to an IT systems outage, disrupting operations for both the carrier and its regional partner, Horizon Air. The issue began around 8:00 p.m. Pacific Time and is expected to continue affecting services throughout the night, the airline said. The nature of the technical glitch has not been fully disclosed. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the suspension, stating, “Alaska’s mainline and Horizon operations have been halted.” This is not the first such incident for the airline. In April 2024, Alaska Airlines had to ground its entire fleet due to a malfunction in its weight and balance calculation system.

Alaska Airlines currently operates a fleet of 238 Boeing 737s and 87 Embraer 175 aircraft. The aviation sector has recently seen a growing concern over cyberattacks, although it remains unclear whether the latest disruption is linked to any cybersecurity threat.
