Bangladesh secured both gold and silver medals at the World Innovation Creativity Olympiad (WICO), held from July 17 to 19 at Seoul National University in South Korea. The gold-winning team was Team Atlas, while Code Black, the country’s only all-female innovator group, took home silver. Both teams have previously brought international acclaim to Bangladesh, with Team Atlas earning 20 accolades and Code Black collecting five.

Team Atlas won gold for their invention of an Automated Agricultural Robot. The team consists of Sunny Zubair (team leader), Ahmed Sajid Rizwan, Md. Ishtiaq Ahmed, Khandaker Md. Fahim Ashhab from BRAC University, and Mostaqim Rahman Mahir from Heritage School. Their project aimed to automate agricultural processes such as land surveillance, pesticide spraying, and crop monitoring, with AI-driven automation at its core.

Sunny Zubair shared after the win, “This year at WICO 2025, we presented our agricultural assistant robot, Farmax. Our project focused on making modern agricultural technology accessible and efficient. It wasn’t an easy journey — we had very little time and worked countless late nights to complete preparations. Alhamdulillah, we are proud to have represented our country among so many global participants.”

Meanwhile, Code Black, a pioneering female tech team in Bangladesh, earned silver with their underwater rescue robot Aquaris, designed for underwater search, rescue, pollution detection, and water quality monitoring. The team includes Jannatul Ferdous Fabeen (team leader), Sayra Islam Moon, Rukaiya Amin Saba, Nusrat Jahan Sinha, and Tahia Rahman Bivor — students of North South and BRAC Universities. Three members participated directly, while two were unable to attend in person.

Receiving the silver medal, team leader Jannatul Ferdous Fabeen expressed gratitude, saying, “Alhamdulillah, we’ve returned from WICO 2025 with a silver medal. The journey was anything but easy. Our team built Aquaris, an underwater, submersible rescue robot that monitors water quality, detects pollution, and even helps clean the water. We had to set up a booth, present our research paper before the judges, and demonstrate each feature hands-on. We were physically exhausted and had very little time — but we didn’t give up.”

She added, “We believe we could’ve done even better. Still, Alhamdulillah, we gave it our best. Standing among 1,200+ participants from 25 countries and securing a place is our biggest achievement. Thank you all for your unwavering support. Please keep us in your prayers so we can continue delivering even greater innovations.”

A total of three teams from Bangladesh participated in WICO 2025, represented by 11 members. The gold and silver medals were awarded by WICO President Lee Joo Hyang in recognition of the country’s outstanding innovations.
