The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has launched a new facility allowing manufacturers to directly submit their VAT returns (Mushak 9.1) from their own Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. This tech-driven initiative has been enabled through integration between the taxpayers' internal software and NBR’s Integrated VAT Administration System (IVAS).

For the first time, two companies—Seven Rings Cement and Siam Bangla Cement—have adopted the system. Beginning with the VAT period of April, these companies submitted their VAT returns with a single click via their ERP systems, directly into the IVAS platform.

Previously, taxpayers were required to prepare returns using their own software and then re-upload the data into the IVAS system, a process that consumed time, increased manual workload, and added pressure on the system. According to NBR, the new system reduces these complications, enhances speed, and ensures transparency and accountability in return submission.

In a statement issued on Monday, June 30, NBR announced that the program has initially been launched on a pilot basis among entities under the Large Taxpayer Unit (VAT) and Dhaka (East) Commissionerate. If successful, the system will gradually be expanded to other taxpayer groups.

NBR spokesperson Md. Al-Amin Sheikh stated that the entire technological framework was implemented by NBR’s own team. “If taxpayers are eventually allowed to file VAT returns directly from their internal software systems, it will mark a significant advancement in the digital transformation of tax administration,” he said.

Currently, the IVAS platform already supports online VAT registration, return filing, and other services. With the addition of ERP-IVAS integration, taxpayers are set to experience enhanced convenience and efficiency.
