Grameenphone Grants Installment Option for Smartphones Without Credit Cards
Grameenphone, the country’s leading telecom operator, has introduced a new facility allowing customers to purchase smartphones in monthly installments without the need for a credit card. This initiative, launched in collaboration with PalmPay, makes Grameenphone the second operator in the country to offer such a service.
Under this scheme, both existing and prospective Grameenphone users can buy select models of Tecno and itel smartphones by making a 15% down payment of the total handset price, with the remainder payable over 9 monthly installments. The offer is available at all Grameenphone Centers (GPCs) and selected partner outlets across the country. Payments can be made through MFS (mobile financial services) or select banking partners.
Grameenphone’s Chief Product Officer Solaiman Alam stated, “To ensure responsible credit management and secure installment payments, all purchased smartphones under this scheme will come equipped with a smart locking system. This technology will provide regular reminders to the user for timely payments and will automatically lock the device if any dues remain unpaid, ensuring a secure and user-friendly experience.”
June Zheng (Ethan), Managing Director of PalmPay Limited, emphasized the social impact of the initiative: “Smartphone usage is not only about access to technology—it also enables digital education, financial inclusion, and opens up new economic opportunities. With this initiative, we are creating access for millions of people in Bangladesh to enter the digital ecosystem through a secure and simple payment solution.”
Rezwanul Haque, CEO of iSmartU Technology Bangladesh Ltd., added, “The collaboration between Grameenphone and PalmPay will allow Tecno and itel smartphones to reach a broader audience. Many people previously unable to afford smartphones due to financial constraints now have a gateway through this accessible installment facility. We are proud that our quality devices will reach more users through this impactful partnership.”
