Heist in Uniform: Fake RAB Officers Allegedly Rob Tk 1.8 Crore from Nagad Representative in Uttara

In a dramatic, film-style incident, a group of men dressed as Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officers allegedly intercepted and robbed a representative of mobile financial service provider Nagad of Tk 10.8 crore in Dhaka’s Uttara area on Saturday morning around 9:00 am.
CCTV footage of the incident shows the victim traveling on a motorcycle when a black microbus suddenly blocked his path. Several individuals, dressed in RAB uniforms, emerged from the vehicle and attempted to apprehend him. As the victim tried to flee on foot, the impersonators chased and eventually caught him. They then forced him into the microbus and drove away.
Law enforcement authorities confirmed that police visited the scene and are treating the matter with utmost seriousness. “We are working to uncover the actual events behind this incident,” a police source said. Investigators are currently analyzing the CCTV footage and the license plate of the microbus used in the heist.
According to Uttara West Police and eyewitnesses, four men were transporting the money from the residence of Abdul Khalek Noyon, the local distributor of Nagad, to the distribution office using motorcycles.
At that moment, the robbers—lying in wait in a Toyota Hiace microbus—posed as RAB personnel and intercepted the team. At gunpoint, they abducted three of the individuals: Kawsar, Liaqat, and Abdur Rahman. The fourth member of the team, Omar Hossain, managed to escape on foot, safeguarding approximately Tk 1 lakh in his possession.
The abducted men were later released in Sector 17 of Uttara, while the robbers fled the scene.
Commenting on the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Division, Md. Mahidul Islam, said, “We are investigating the actual amount of money stolen, identifying those involved, and determining whether any insider might have been linked to the robbery. Our team is using technological assistance to track down the culprits.”
