BTRC Issues Stern Warning Over PMR and SBR Device Misplacement
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has issued a special directive urging heightened caution in the use of radio communication equipment such as walkie-talkies and repeaters associated with Private Mobile Radio (PMR) and Short Breaking Radio (SBR) systems. The commission has warned of strict legal consequences if such devices are lost or damaged.
In a directive signed by Dr. Sohel Rana, Director of the Spectrum Division at BTRC, and issued on April 9, it was stated, “In the future, if any PMR or SBR-related radio equipment is lost, not only will financial penalties be imposed, but legal action will also be taken against the concerned organization.” The circular emphasizes the need for all organizations with permission to operate these devices to exercise increased vigilance to prevent such incidents.
The official communication, issued with the approval of the competent authority, calls upon all licensed users and importers of PMR and SBR equipment to strictly adhere to the guidelines.
The directive has been circulated among all approved users and importers of PMR and SBR equipment to ensure compliance and accountability.
In Bangladesh, PMR systems are primarily used by large-scale public and private institutions for communication, while SBR systems are utilized by smaller organizations and individuals. In both cases, use is subject to government regulations and licensing requirements from BTRC.
