Bangladesh Bets on Semiconductors: $150 Billion Export Target with 20,000 Skilled Workers

Bangladesh could earn up to $150 billion in export revenue from the semiconductor industry over the next decade with just 20,000 skilled professionals, said Secretary of the ICT Division Shish Haider Chowdhury.

Highlighting the immense potential of the trillion-dollar global semiconductor market, Chowdhury emphasized the importance of government support in fostering the sector. He recommended offering “10 to 15 years of tax holidays, exemption of import duties, access to special bonded warehouses, fast-track customs clearance for shipments, and 5–10% cash incentives for exports.”

He shared these insights during a press conference held on Tuesday, July 15, at the ICT Tower conference room in Agargaon, Dhaka.

The event was attended by Purdue University Professor Dr. Md. Mostafa Hossain, Executive Director of Bangladesh Computer Council Dr. Mehedi Hasan, semiconductor expert and Global Foundries Vice President Dr. Mahbub Rashed, among others.
