Bangladesh Celebrates 7th National Voter Day with Grand Festivities
The 7th National Voter Day was celebrated across Bangladesh with vibrant programs. This year’s theme was “In Our Bangladesh, We Vote Together” (তোমার আমার বাংলাদেশে, ভোট দিব মিলেমিশে).
To mark the occasion, the Rajshahi Regional Election Office organized various events on Sunday. During the programs, officials announced that citizens can now complete their voter registration forms online from home, requiring only a visit to the election office for fingerprint and iris scans.
The celebration began in the morning at the Regional Election Office premises, where Divisional Commissioner Khondoker Azim Ahmed inaugurated the event by releasing balloons, festoons, and pigeons.
Following this, a colorful procession paraded through major streets before concluding at the Divisional Commissioner’s Office. The rally was led by the Divisional Commissioner and was joined by Rajshahi Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Mohammad Shahjahan, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufian, officials from the regional election office, and newly registered voters.
After the rally, a discussion session was held at the conference hall of the Divisional Commissioner’s Office, presided over by Regional Election Officer Md. Delwar Hossain. The Divisional Commissioner attended as the chief guest.
During his speech, Khondoker Azim Ahmed asked new voters about the required documents for registration. A participant responded that new voters need a birth certificate or SSC certificate, the national identity cards of their parents, a citizenship certificate, and a copy of any utility bill. The Divisional Commissioner further inquired whether eligible citizens could register as voters at any time. The election officials confirmed that they could, either by submitting the form online or visiting the election office for biometric verification.
The event was attended by government and non-government officials, students, new voters, and media representatives.
