BSMMU Introduces Online Appointment Service for Outpatient Care

To alleviate patient suffering and ensure improved medical services, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) has launched an online appointment service for outpatient care in March, the month of independence. The initiative aims to enhance service quality, reduce unnecessary crowding, save patients' time, and eliminate the hassle of standing in long queues for tickets at the outpatient department.
Through BSMMU's official website, patients can now book appointments with their preferred doctors for consultations.
Speaking about the initiative, BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam stated, "The online appointment system will play a significant role in integrating outpatient medical services with academic and research activities. This will improve the quality of patient care, ensure better facilities for patients visiting BSMMU’s outpatient department, and accelerate academic and research activities at the university."
He further emphasized that the system will allow the storage of patient data, facilitating complete automation of outpatient and inpatient services. "With the preservation of test results and medical records, doctors and specialists will have access to essential patient information, enabling them to provide valuable advice and necessary medical services. Additionally, the collected data will open new avenues for research."
Professor Alam assured that doctors will be held accountable for attending to patients with online appointments. He added, "This will bring a significant shift in the current mindset where resident doctors often rush through consultations without proper patient interaction. The online appointment system will instill a commitment to providing adequate time to patients, significantly improving healthcare quality and patient satisfaction."
The inaugural ceremony of the online appointment service was held on the first day of March at BSMMU’s outpatient department. Attendees included BSMMU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research & Development) Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader, Treasurer Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhter, Registrar Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Proctor Dr. Sheikh Farhad, Director (Planning & Development) Associate Professor Dr. Erfanul Haque Siddiqui, Director (Hospital) Brigadier General Abu Noman Mohammad Mosleh Uddin, IT Cell Director Professor Dr. AKM Akhtaruzzaman, and System Analyst Md.
